| Major (Core) (Distibuted over all semesters) |
It is the subject which is essential for getting adequate knowledge in the chosen course/major of study. |
| Major (Optional) (V Semester) |
It is the subject offered by other Major Departments which can be chosen by a student irrespective of the major to which he/she belongs. |
| Allied (Core) (I, II, & III Semesters) |
It is the subject offered by a department other than the major department or by the same department, the study of which is supportive and relevant for the core subject, hence compulsory. |
| Allied (Optional) (IV Semester) |
It is the subject offered by a department other than the major department which may be studied by any student irrespective of the major to which he/she belongs. |
| Skill based Subject (VI Semester) |

Faculty Adivsor
To help the students to plan their optional papers of the study and to offer general advice on the academic programmes, a student will be assigned to a member of the faculty (Major Dept) who will function as "Faculty Advisor" throughout his/her period of study.
The Faculty Advisor will counsel students on matters relating to the choice of subjects, withdrawal, etc. The student will meet his/her Faculty Advisor atleast three times during the semester.

The departmental committee is to meet atleast thrice a semester to review all matters relevant to the academic programme. It is the responsibility of the HOD to keep the records, Viz., the Agenda, Notes, Minutes, Diary etc.
Registration Procedure for Optional Subjects
Registration for the optional subjects should be done with the subject teacher in consultation with the Faculty Advisor.
Students are expected to register for subjects intended to be credited during the next semester on specified dates in the current semester and obtain the initials of the subject teacher on the registration card. For semester I, they will register at the beginning of the semester.
Students are permitted to withdraw from a subject for valid reasons after one week of its commencement, on the recommendation of the Faculty Advisor with the consent of the Head of the Department of the student.
Students may register, with approval of the subject teacher concerned, for another subject in lieu of the subject from which they have withdrawn, during the second week of the semester subject to the availability of vacancy.
Classification of Successful Candidates

Ranking
Candidates who have secured 60% and above in aggregate and passed in first attempt in all papers are eligible for the award of Rank Certificate on payment of prescribed fee.
Marks Secured by way of improvement will not be taken into account for ranking purpose. Ranking will be given to the first three highest scores only.
